7pm Barely Athletic 1-4 Wembledines Pitch 1
8pm Mulcair Rovers 2-1 Bluestreak Pitch 1
Barely Athletic 1-4 Wembledines
Wembledines Kept up their impressive form with a comprehensive 4-1 win against Barely Atheltic. The ever impressive al Finucane got the scoring under way with a finely worked goal. It was no sooner 2-0 when Dave grabbed his first of the night and saw Wembledines go in at the break 2-0. The same pattern followed in the second half and Dave added his 2nd and Wembeldines 3rd. To their credit Barely didn’t throw in the towel, and a fine effort from Cameron saw them back into the game. All hope was then lost and the game was put to bed by a fantastic Brian Aherne in the closing minutes to seal the win.
Cutters 3-2 Black Swans
A rare 6 30 kick off as both sides were eager to get to the pub to watch Ireland fail miserably against the All Blacks. Cutters began the contest on top and were only kept out by Swans keeper Paudi Hartnett. They got their first of the half after the ball was given away cheaply and a long range effort found the fingertips of Hartnett but went into the top corner. The swans response was poor, and again another cheap loss of possession on the hallway line was punished by the young Clare side and they went in 2-0 up at the break. The swans to their credit fought back and a fantastic cross was headed home at the back post by Eoghan Nicholas after 10 minutes of the second half. The swans pushed for an equaliser in a stop start second half but it was the Clare side who hit on the break with 15 minutes left to go 3-1 up. With 5 minutes left Diarmuid Hegarty stabbed home a fumble from the Cutters keeper to set up a frantic finish but Cutters held on for a valuable 3 points.
Bluestreak 1-2 Mulcair
In the only 8pm game of the night, it was a huge upset as Newly formed Mulcair rovers battled hard for a deserved first 3 points of the season against a well fancied and former champion in Bluestreak. After an initial spell of good possession, it was Mulcair who broke the deadlock with a fantastic counter attack goal finished off by Mike Corry. 5 minutes later Bluestreak had their first real chance but it was squandered by Darragh up top. Bluestreak then again tried to push matters but again found themselves undone on the counter in a near carbon copy goal again finished off by Mike Corry. Bluestreak had two fantastic chances to level but could not beat the Mulcair keeper., Mulcair went in at half time 2-0 up. The second half was a case of we hold what we have from Mulcair. Despite loud shouts from their sideline to move up the field, the fact of the matter was they couldn’t. It was relentless pressure being applied by Bluestreak. Midway through the second half after plenty of time with the ball at their feet, they pulled one back. A Dave Broderick corner was finally converted by Luke Carmody. This set up a nervy 15 minutes but to the credit of the Mulcair lads, they would not be breached. Fantastic defending from multiple frees and corners saw them claim a vital win
