Cappaquigly v Team Lightning

Too close to call at the top

As we enter the final weeks of the season, no fewer than 6 (SIX!!) teams remain in the running for the league title. Six teams have dropped points in 3 games meaning it really is anyone's game as we enter the business end.

A huge 3-1 win for Bluestreak vs Cutters kept their interests alive and dealt a huge blow to the Clare men's league ambitions. Barely Athletic ensured they lost no ground and got through their match vs Brazuca with a 2-1 win. Wembledines and Tacklescardia played out a 3-3 draw with hat trick Dan McGovern rescuing a point for the med students at the death from the penalty spot (video below). In the Polish derby, it was last year's Cup winners Polonia Limerick FC that came out on top in a 3-0 victory.

A betting man would not fancy handicapping this market as all six teams harbour genuine ambitions of lifting the league trophy in a few weeks. Barely and Cutters have the most ground to make up, but they have the most games to do it. Polonia Limerick and Bluestreak will be aiming to capture maximum points in their remaining two games and hope results elsewhere go their way. Cappaquigley avoid playing any of the top six in their final two games and know two wins will put them in pole position to capture the title while Team Polonia Limerick will hope that a win vs Tacklescardia in their final game will be enough points in the bank to avoid being caught. An thrilling end to the season in store!!

Last minute equaliser  for Tacklescardia from hat trick hero Dan McGovern.

Cutters catapult into 2nd

Bluestreak 3-2 Cappaquigley Athletic

Cappaquigleys unbeaten run came to an end at the hands of Bluestreak. This game had everything with goals, yellow cards and two teams going at it right from the off. 20 minutes in and Bluestreak took the lead with a great strike from 35 yards from Rob Hickey. Within just 2 minutes Cappaquigley levelled through Mike and they went in to half time at 1-1

5 minutes into the second half Bluestreak re took the lead. A quick counter led to a corner where Dave Broderick found space inside the box. 20 minutes into the second half Cappa equalised again, Tyler brought down inside the and duly converted himself. There was more drama to come and it came within just 1 minute of the equaliser. Bluestreak scored what proved to be the decisive goal through the ever willing Josh up top. A crazy last 10 minutes where 4 yellow cards were shown with both teams fighting hard for a result. Bluestreak held on for the remaining minutes to secure a big win

Barely 2-0 Team Polonia

A quiet first half with no chances for either team led them into the break scoreless. 5 mins into the second half an unbelievable strike from outside the box by Keith Kane. A finish that his namesake Harry Kane would have been proud of. With minutes remaining Barely scored another to seal the win through mannie

Cutters 1-0 Tacaklescardia

Like the other 8pm game, the first half proved a stalemate at 0-0. The second half followed suit and very little chances for either team and a draw was looking the likely result. The excellent Tacklescardia keeper made one of his many saves when substitute/ever present leader of the Cutters Eoghan Begley came close with minutes to go. In the final minute, Micheal OLoughlin powered through the middle and scored to seal the win for Cutters.
