Team Polonia Limerick will look to retain the Champions League as they face off against stalwarts Barely Athletic. Both teams overcame dramatic penalty shootouts to book their place in the final. Semi final clashes set

A few weeks ago, Cappaquigley beat Tacklescardia to secure the league title. The two teams met again in the Champions League quarter-final, but tongiht it was Tacklesacardia who came out on top in the med school derby. Cappaquigley went ahead when Mike Turner knocked in an inswinging free kick (goal below). The two teams traded goals as Tacklescardia desperately looked for an equaliser in the second half. They managed to find it and with a full time score of 2-2, it was time for penalties to decide their fate. Tacklescardia emerged victorious in the shootout to set up a semi-final meeting with Barely Athletic who beat Bluestreak in the previous week's quarter final.

Team Polonia Limerick put in a solid 2-0 performance against GEMS FC to ensure their place in the Champions League semi-final. They would face the winners of Polonia Limerick vs Wembledines. This back and forth game also finished 2-2 and meant for the second time of the evening, spotters would decide the day. Polonia Limerick just about got over the line winning the shootout 4-3.

Cappaquigley are league champions!

Cappaquigley 2-0 Tacklescardia

It was all on the line in the local medical derby. A win for Cappaquigley would ensure they took the league title. The newbies Tacklescardia however pushed them all the way. 2 late goals in the second half with the first a quite controversial one from Omesh. The ball seemed to strike the wheel inside the goal. VAR was needed and after some deliberation the referee awarded the goal. The 2nd goal was from leading scorer the ever energetic Josh Howe up front 2 minutes from time sealed the victory and the league crown.

Barely Athletic 2-1 GEMS

The experienced Barely Athletic won this one by the odd goal in 3 from the much improved GEMS. Barely took the lead on 20 mins with Brian Dillon grabbing the goal. Gems hit back just before half time through Calum o Hare and the sides went in 1-1 at half time. An early second half goal from Tristan O Sullivan for Barely sealed the game

Polonia Limerick 4-0 Cutters

Too close to call at the top

As we enter the final weeks of the season, no fewer than 6 (SIX!!) teams remain in the running for the league title. Six teams have dropped points in 3 games meaning it really is anyone's game as we enter the business end.

A huge 3-1 win for Bluestreak vs Cutters kept their interests alive and dealt a huge blow to the Clare men's league ambitions. Barely Athletic ensured they lost no ground and got through their match vs Brazuca with a 2-1 win. Wembledines and Tacklescardia played out a 3-3 draw with hat trick Dan McGovern rescuing a point for the med students at the death from the penalty spot (video below). In the Polish derby, it was last year's Cup winners Polonia Limerick FC that came out on top in a 3-0 victory.

A betting man would not fancy handicapping this market as all six teams harbour genuine ambitions of lifting the league trophy in a few weeks. Barely and Cutters have the most ground to make up, but they have the most games to do it. Polonia Limerick and Bluestreak will be aiming to capture maximum points in their remaining two games and hope results elsewhere go their way. Cappaquigley avoid playing any of the top six in their final two games and know two wins will put them in pole position to capture the title while Team Polonia Limerick will hope that a win vs Tacklescardia in their final game will be enough points in the bank to avoid being caught. An thrilling end to the season in store!!

Last minute equaliser  for Tacklescardia from hat trick hero Dan McGovern.
