Team Lightning 1-0 Barely Athletic

Lightning leave it late to claim the points.

Evergreen Damien ‘Wobbler’ Collins came up trumps against a plucky Athletic side.

The opening stanza was a cagey affair as Athletic looked to soak up pressure and counter with their pacey wingers. The clearest opening saw Lightning’s Craig Mads effort hammer the crossbar with the keeper beaten.

Into the second half and the game followed a similar pattern with Lightning ramping up the pressure. The profligate finishing continued as the Athletic defensive unit held on. David Bowles and Chimka Manjor were both unlucky with efforts that hit crossbar and flew narrowly over with the keeper beaten.

Athletic had a number of counter attacks that were thwarted by the man- mountain Gerry Guinan.

With six minutes left on the clock, the deadlock was finally broken as a sweeping move from lightning broke the resilient rearguard action. Philly Maher with a buffet cross that asked to be finished and Wobbler duly obliged with a clinical header. Lightning saw out the closing minutes with stand in Keeper John Lysaght untroubled.

Mulcair Rovers 2-2 Sheffield Thursday

David Frawley and Ethan Hannon were on the scoresheet for Sheffield Thursday as they took a point a piece in their game vs Mulcair Rovers.
