Gems 0-9 Sheffield
A tough first evening for Gems as they fell to a heavy defat at the hands of Sheffield Thursday. Sheffield started with just 8 players as they waited for their full complement to arrive. The game stayed at 0-0 for 15 minutes but then they gained control and made it 4-0 before the break. A further 5 were added after half time. The Gems keeper put in a very credible display despite the score line with some great saves. Goals scored by Brin Holmes 3, James Casey 2, Joe Mullane 2, Craig Whelan and Benji
Bluestreak 1 - 5 Team Polonia
Night owls ever presents Bluestreak got off to a tough start at the hands of last season's Champions League winners Team Polonia. Polonia took an early lead after 15 minutes through Telmek with a smart finish. But just 3 minutes later Tomas Hayes replied from the spot to level up the tie. That was as good as it would get for the past champions as Polonia then took firm control. Bart put them 2-1 again just minutes later to go in 2-1 at the break. The second half was dominated by the Poles and further goals from Jacob, Harco and Dulci secured a big opening day win
Barely Atheltic 1 - 1 Cappaquigley
Last year's Champions League runners up, the all action all heart Cappaquigley could only start this season with a draw as they played out a hard battle with Barely Athletic who have made fast improvements year on year and will be looking for a Cappaquigley type season for themselves. The game was even throughout and the first half went in scoreless after few chances. The game came alive just 2 minutes into the second half when Tyler put the champions 1 up with a brilliant strike from outside the box into the bottom left hand corner which left the keeper with no chance. Barely after this pushed hard and really owned the second half. They eventually got their reward with just 2 minutes remaining. A smart shot inside a crowded goalmouth from Cameron Crowe secured a fair draw.
