In the first game of the evening, Polonia Limerick came out on top in the a 5 goal thriller vs Black Swans. The Swans got their first in the 20th minute when a inswinging free kick from the right was knocked in. Polonia found the equaliser around the half way mark as both teams traded chances. In the 37th minute, Polonia created a chance through the right channel and went a goal up. Polonia ensured a cushion heading into the final minutes after punishing a Black Swans attack that were in desperate search of a goal. A counter attack saw Polonia with an overload and a smart cross played into to box was duly finished. Swans responded quickly however and there was a single goal in the scoreline heading into the dying minutes. Some good Polonia blocks saw them shut out the Swans for the last 5 minutes and come away with an important 3 points.
Cappaquigly got their post season campaign up and running with a 3-1 victory over Sheffield Thursday. A great opening goal from Tyler in the 2nd minute gave Cappa the dream start. The students never looked back as the ever dangerous OJ added a second with a slick finish. Walid rounded out the first half with a well taken goal to put Cappaquigley 3 up at half time. Credit to Sheffield Thursday, they didn't let the 3-0 scoreline deter them and they came out battling in the second half. They were rewarded in the 35th minute when an excellent free kick from Rob Whyte (video below) hit the back of the net. Sheffield continued in search of a way back into the game but the now defending deep Cappaquigley made some vital blocks in the box to ensure Sheffield were kept at bay. 3-1 the final score.
Another ding dong battle saw 5 goals shared between Alfies and Wembledines with the Dines coming out on top. Just before half time, Wembledines opened the scoring. A beautiful Alfies goal in the 37th minute saw a cross from the right finished with a Zidane like volley the fly past the keeper into the opposite corner of the net. A goal from Pa in the 37th minute saw Wembledines go 3-1 up and put them in a seemingly comfortable position. In the 52nd minute, an Alfies free kick had too much for the goalkeeper and it looked as if the men in yellow might just sneak a point. In the 56th minute, Wembledines broke down the left after a ball was played wide. The Dines man cut in from the touchline and took a shot with his right foot. Looking over the second it left his foot, the ball continued dipping and almost caught the Alfies keeper unaware. Thankfully the underside of the crossbar came to the resuce as Wembledines narrowly missed out on making it 4. Alfies couldn't find the eualiser in the dying minutes as Wembledines make it 2 wins from 2 in Group B.
Sporting Viking had too much for Brazuca Legends as they ran out 5-0 winners in the group A encounter. In the 12th minute, a right footed shot after cutting inside nestled into the net and Sporting had the lead. This was never relinquished as Sporting Viking added 3 more before the half. Another in the second half saw the Viking come away as 5-0 winners vs the Legends.
