An OG in the 52nd minute was the sole goal in the league deciding tie between Wembledines and Team Lighting. A free kick from deep was sent into a dangerous area and an unfortunate Lightning head helped the ball past the hapless keeper to give Wembledines a crucial late lead. The victory sees Wembldines claim the league title unbeaten. Just a single nil all draw versus Barely Athletic the only blotch on the Dines' copybook. Wembledines make it two league titles in a row and will be in confident mood going into the post-season.
In the other 7pm kick off, BD Ballers knew three points would see them leap frog Cutters in the table. It was Cutters who hit the front in the first half (video below) before BD Ballers found the equaliser in the 42nd minute. Just minutes before Dines scored on the other pitch, Cutters found their own go-ahead goal, also courtesy of a floated free kick. This time a defender also got an unfortunate touch on the ball which helped the ball onto the now onside Cutter forwards. 5 yards out, the Cutters main made no mistake and give his team the lead.
In the 8pm games, Bluestreak, who were hoping to have a league decider vs Barely Athletic, knew that given the Wembledines result they would be finishing 2nd in the table. A 1-1 first half saw both teams get off the marj. In the 32nd and 35th minutes, Bluestreak added two goals that Barely could not recover from. Both goals were similar in nature with the respective Bluestreak players apporaching the box from the right side and using a lofted finish into the far corner.
Deportivo entered their match with Alfies knowing a win would put all of Deportivo, Alfies and Lightning level on ten points. A well earned 2-1 victory from the boys from Dooradoyle meant the tie breakers would have to be used to decide who finished in the top 4. The three teams each recorded one win and one loss against one another.
Alfies Heroes 2-0 Team Lightning
Deportivo D'doyle 1-4 Team Lightning
Deportivo D'doyle 2-1 Alfies Heroes
In this situation, the tie breaker goes to goal difference in the head-to-head results.
This sees Deportivo finish just outside the top 4 spots. With Lightning and Alfies both finishing on the same goal difference, the criteria then moves to overall GD which means Lightning pip Alfies to 3rd place.
