In the 7pm kick offs, one goal proved to be enough to give Kearney's Army their first win of the post-season as they completed their first round of games. The goal which came mid-way through the game gave Kearney's something to hang onto as they kept Delta Utd out and earned a well deserved clean sheet and 3 points. Delta Utd 1-0 Kearney's Army.
A back-and-forth game saw Bluestreak snatch a point with a late equaliser in the other 7pm kick off. Bluestreak got off to a good start against the depleted Cutters. In the 20th minute, the Bluestreak forward ran at the Cutters defence and attempted to slot the ball into the far corner. Keeper Feilim Begley managed to get a hand to it and force ball out for a corner. Minutes later, Bluestreak went ahead with Gary grabbing the goal. Despite being short on numbers, Cutters kept working hard and battling away. Their work was rewarded in the 45th minute when a rifled ball into the box was not dealt with by the Bluestreak defence and fell to a Cutters man who hit home. The Cutters tails were up and 5 minutes later, they took the lead (video below). Just as the final whistle went over in the Kearneys-Delta Utd game, Bluestreak were up the Limerick side of the Cappavilla pitches celebrating their late late equaliser. 1-1 the final score leaving a tight "B" table.
In the 8pm games, just like Kearneys Army, one goal was enough to give Boca Seniors a huge win vs Wembledines. In the 24th minute, a great swerving strike from 25 yards left the Dines keeper helpless and gave Boca a half time lead. Wembledines waited for their chance but failed to find that crucial bit of luck to break down the Boca defence. One of their better chances came in the 45th minute. After working the ball out right, a cross into front post was met by several bodies but the ball ended up the wrong side of the post. There was no more goals to be had and Boca collected the 3 points.
Alfies Heroes had the better of the opening exchanges in their match vs Team Lightning. Both teams recorded shots on target in the opening half forcing good stops from the respective keepers. Just before half-time, a ball into the back post was knocked in to give Alfies a 1-0 half time lead. Alfies played some nice stuff in the second half pulling off some good pass and move combinations. One of those phases of play resulted in a ball across the face of goal which was smartly dealt with by the Lightning defence and deflected out for a corner. Lightning had some half chances but could not manage to penetrate the Alfies goal. The game was sealed in the final minutes as Alfies converted a penalty to record a 2-0 victory over Lightning.
