14-01-22 - Matchday 2 (post-season)

Bluestreak 7 – 1 Delta United FC

It was a dominant display from start to finish for Bluestreak in a well-deserved heavy victory. The writing was on the walls early for delta, as they went 1 down inside a couple of minutes due to a mistake at the back. The 2nd quickly followed for Bluestreak thanks to some excellent build up play. A 3rd and 4th followed just before half time, with the 3rd a superb solo effort from the left winger to set up his teammate. Delta to their credit battled on and pulled back a lovely goal after half time. This however wasn’t the end of the scoring as Bluestreak continued to pile on pressure and added 3 more to make it a comprehensive 7-1 victory

Kearneys 0 -1 Friday Night Lights

A real tight knit affair this one. Both teams were well matched, and from minute one struggled to come up with many chances. FNL could have been 1 up only for the great effort of Kearneys keeper Brian Collopy to keep them at bay. The game’s only goal and crucial moment came a few minutes later thanks to a lovely breakaway move and a very well taken near post finish. The game followed a similar, even pattern in the 2nd half and not many chances were created. FNL held on for a big win.

Team Lightning 2-1 Delta

This was a contender for game of the night. An all-action end to end game where both keepers had to be on top form. Delta took an early lead thanks to a fantastic edge of the box finish. This goal seemed to galvanise TL and they consistently threatened Delta, largely in part to Wobbler, Philly Maher and Pops. A couple of small chances each but to no avail and the teams went into the half with Delta 1 up. TL came out again firing hard, and eventually got their deserved equaliser from a lovely cross into the box. The game went to and fro and finally TL got their winner, a scrappy goal from a corner that Delta will be disappointed to have conceded.

Boca Seniors 2-0 Alfies Heroes

Another very close game on pitch 2 between two well matched sides. Both teams creating half chances without really testing either keeper. The breakthrough came and it was controversial to say the least. Boca were awarded a penalty after one of their men was deemed to be fouled by the referee just approaching half time. Alfies were not pleased to say the least, but nevertheless the penalty was slotted to go in 1 up. Alfies came out and to their credit played some lovely football and created some decent chances, but just could not find a breakthrough. The game was put to bed late on as Bocas capped off a good performance with a well worked breakaway goal.
