It took until 7:59pm to witness a goal in the 7pm kick-offs. The goal (video above) may prove to be the most important goal of the season though as Wembledines move within one point of securing the league title. The game saw Dines have slightly the better of it for the opening three quarters - coming nearest to scoring in the 44th minute when they hit the post - but Cutters found a late head of steam and could've easily snatched it in the last 15 minutes. Unfortunately for Cutters, a heartbreaking last minute corner saw the referee consult goal line technology and confirm that they ball did indeed cross the line. Ecstasy for Wembledines who will feel they have one hand on the trophy. A point for Dines against Bluestreak next week will wrap it up, but even a loss in that game would mean 2nd place Team Lightning would have to pick maximum points in their final two games - vs 3rd place Boca and 4th place Delta.
Kearneys Army got off to a fast start in their tie vs Delta Utd. A goal in the 9th minute (video below) was followed a second 5 minutes later. A through ball was fed to Chris Quinn who performed some tidy footwork and coolly slid the ball past the keeper. Kearneys looked to be cruising but the game was level 3 minutes later. Right after Kearney's second came Delta Utd's first. A looping cross (or shot?) found its way right over the head of the Kearneys keeper. Two minutes later and another shot from distance proved Kearneys undoing and Delta Utd were right back in the game. Midway through the second half, Kearneys were winning corner after corner. A goal line clearance (video below) saw the ref again consult goal-line technology and this time it was adjudged that the whole ball did not cross the line. Kearneys got the final goal of the game in the 43rd minute when a through ball found Danny in loads of space. The Kearneys talisman carried the ball forward into the box and finished well past the Delta Utd keeper. Final score of 3-2.
