Team Lightning secured the "A" league title with a 3-1 win over Delta. Despite having a minority of possession and less clear cut chances during the game, Lightning made it count when it mattered and managed the game well. In the 7th minute, a good save in a one-on-one situation from goalkeeper Mark Carey gave Lightning the platform to grow into the game. Jason Sheahan got the all-important first goal in the 15th minute. In the 20th minute, a Lightning corner was cleared by Delta but the ball found its way back to Wobbler at a wide angle just inside the box. A looping volley over the keeper's head forced a great save from the back-peddling Delta keeper. Lightning managed to get a two goal cushion in the 25th minute after a goal from Chimka. Delta pushed hard before the half with several corners but Lightning managed to get to the half time break 2 goals to the good. Lightning knew they just had to see out the game and the "A" league title would be theirs. Delta came out fast and strong in the second half and kept Lightning under constant pressure. 4 minutes into the half, a Delta player was firstto a punched clearance and got a shot off from the edge of the box. The shot went wide and Delta regrouped again. Lightning were dealing with the many inswinging Delta corners with several headers and punches keeping the Lightning net safe. The mounting pressure eventually told and Delta finally registered a goal in the 55th minute. A clearance was picked up by a Delta player and the shot from 20 yards found the target to force a nervy ending to the game. Delta gave it everything they had but three minutes from time Lightning scored a break-away goal. This allowed Lightning to revel in the final few minutes of the game after a 12 year wait for a league title.
Bluestreak 0-1 Boca Seniors
A 1-0 win put Boca in pole position in the "B" league. Boca now know that a win or a draw vs second place Lakers on the final day will secure the title. In a tight game, Boca went close in the 5th minute. A good corner to the backpost was knocked down but the resulting volley was skyed over. The crucial goal came 5 minutes before half time and Boca would not relinquish this lead. In the 40th minute, Boca looked to double their advantage. After rounding the keeper, the Boca forward found himself at a wide angle and couldn't quite squeeze the ball in the right side of the post. Bluestreak came close in the 45th minute with a good square ball from their right winger to their midfielder. A beautiful curling shot to the far post had the keeper beaten but fell just wide. Boca managed to see out the game and maintain their unbeaten record in the post-season.
Delta Rejects 0-6 Kearneys Army
Kearneys Army were impressive in their 6 goal win vs Delta Rejects. Rejects got off to a good a start and were first to register a shot on target. Cutting in from the left wing, a good shot forced a save from the Kearneys keeper. Dara Molloy opened the scoring in the 12th minute and Kearneys Army never looked back from here. Two minutes later, Kearneys were awarded a penalty which they duly converted to make it 2-0. Kearneys added to their tally in the second half with a third goal in the 35th minute. A blocked shot fell to Robert White on the edge of the box and his excellent curler found the back of the net. White was on the scoresheet again minutes later. The Delta Rejects keeper managed to get a hand to it, but the power behind the near range shot was too much to keep out and Kearneys had their 4th. A square ball across the box in the 45th minute made it 5-0 and they added one more towards the end of the game for a final score of Delta Rejects 0-6 Kearneys Army.
Wembeldines 7-2 Analog
A good game that saw goals and chances from both sides. Wembeldines made better use of the ball overall, but Analog had plenty of good moments during the game and forced several saves from the Dines keeper. Analog's first half goal came from Colm in the 18th minute. After rounding the keeper, he finished well to get Analog on the board. Analog found it tough defensively to handle Wembeldines passing game. In the 22nd minute, good Dines interplay resulted in a ball across the 6 yard box which was duly finished. At half-time, Wembeldines were 4-1 up. In the 35th minute, Dines made the most of a high dropping ball in the box and managed to direct the ball on target to make it 5-1. In the 43rd minute, Evan O'Neill cut in from the left and after his shot was blocked, a clever through ball from the edge of the box was played and the Analog striker cooly finished to make it 5-2. Wembeldines added two more in the final minutes of the game for a final score of Wembeldines 7-2 Analog.
