Delta 2-3 Cutters
An entertaining game saw Cutters start with a chance from an early corner. A double deflection after a good delivery left the Delta keeper not knowing much about it but keeping the ball out nonetheless. Cutters were ahead a few minutes later through Pauric O'Loughlan. A ball from David Fitzgerald found Cian Moriarty who drilled the ball across the box and a powerful shot from O'Loughlan found the back of the net despite the keeper's best efforts. Delta nearly responded immediately after a Zidane-like volley from John O'Sullivan hit the crossbar. Delta were back on level terms by the 12th minute and it stayed that way until the half time whistle. Cutters came out fast in the second half and were 2 up by the 35th minute. Nicky O'Connell grabbed the ball in midfield after a short pass from Ger Powell. O'Connell sliced the ball into the bottom left corner giving Delta's keeper no chance. Pauric O'Loughlan was on hand again for Cutters' 3rd. Full-back David Fitzgerald drove through centre midfield and passed the ball to the on-fire O'Loughlan who burst Deltas net with a blistering strike. Cutters defended deep for the remainder of the game and despite Delta having plenty of possession, they struggled to break down the Cutters defence. A goal line headed clearance in the 48th minute and a shot tipped over by Feilim Begley in the Cutters goal in the 52nd minute were the pick of the Delta chances. Delta were eventually given a life-line 2 minutes from the end after converting a chance from a corner. At 3-2, Delta went for it in the last couple of minutes but Cutters were resolute in their defending. A last minute corner for Delta was cleared by Cutters and the ref blew the final whistle giving Cutters a massive 3 points.
Delta Rejects 1-5 Lakers
Delta Rejects struck first with a goal of the season contender from Lee Costello. A left footed shot from 25 yards went over the keeper and into the far corner to put Delta Rejects one up. Their lead didn't last long though as Lakers equalised 2 minutes later. A through ball was well finished from a tight angle to put Lakers back on terms. Lakers took the game to Delta Rejects and were 2-1 up going into the half time break. In the 38th minute, a great through ball from Donagh split the Delta Rejects centre halves but their sweeper keeper was first to the ball and managed to keep the deficit to one. In the 45th minute, a cleared corner fell to a Lakers player. The resulting shot was parried by the keeper by Lakers were on hand to the rebound to make it 3-1. They went on to add goals in the 48th and 56th minute for a final score of Delta Rejects 1-5 Lakers.
Kearneys Army 0-2 Bluestreak
Bluestreak got off to a perfect start with a goal from Darragh Shanahan in the opening minute of the half. In the 6th minute, a ball from the Bluestreak centre-half found Shanahan again whose first touch took the ball past the defender. The Kearneys centre-half managed to recover and put the ball out for a corner. Kearneys Army played their way back into the game and good interplay from the right resulted in a shot that went just over in the 22nd minute. 6 minutes later, a backpost cross from the right was headed over and Bluestreak went in at half time with their one goal lead intact. A half time change of tactics which involved putting James Hayes up top paid dividends for Bluestreak as they went 2-0 early in the second half. A good inswinging corner wasn't caught cleanly by the Kearneys Army keeper and Hayes was on hand to head home. Kearneys Army fought on with their best chance coming in the 50th minute but their shot went just wide. The win sees Bluestreak remain at the top of the table with 13 points.
Wembeldines 0-2 Team Lightning
Wembeldines and Team Lightning came into this tie joint top (along with Cutters) so both knew three points could prove absolutely crucial. Lightning struck first with a converted penalty in the first half. 15 minutes in, some good play down the right side found Lightning's Jason Sheahan. Sheahan's resulting shot went wide of the far post. On 18 minutes, some great play from Wembeldines saw a lofted pass inside the box volleyed just wide. A few minutes later, Lightning hit the bar - a cleared ball dropped to Kevin whose strike was inches from giving Lightning a two goal cushion. As the half progressed, Lightning keeper Mark Carey was kept busy punching away several Dines crosses. Dines nearly leveled just before half time when a pass from the right was met by an excellent first touch on the edge of the box, the shot smashed off the post. Lightning couldn't enjoy their half time jaffa cakes just yet as some good Wembeldines interplay in the Lightning box saw a low cross cut out by the feet of the Lightning keeper. It was more of the same in the second half as Wembeldines continued to keep the Lightning defence busy. Lightning carved out a chance of their own in the 43rd minute when a cross from the right was met by a powerful header from Jason Sheahan. The ball nearly crossed the line but the Wembeldines keeper just about recovered. Team Lightning got a crucial second goal in the 51st minute. Sheahan received the ball on the edge of the box and played in Philip Maher who slotted home to make it 2-0. Dines kept fighting and hit the post again in the 56th minute. Deciding against taking it into the corner to run the clock down, Jason Sheahan nearly scored an excellent solo goal in the dying minutes. After several step overs, he cut inside but blasted the shot wide. The 2-0 final result sees Lightning go joint top with Cutters on 10 points, while Dines trail both teams by 3 points.
