Analog 1-2 Team Lightning

Both teams were looking to bounce back after losses to start the new year. Lightning looked threatening in the first half with a well worked chance in the 12th minute. Good interplay saw the ball move from the center to the left wing with the resulting shot being blocked and going out for a corner. Lightning went close again a few minutes later when a cross cum shot forced a save from the Analog keeper. The first half finished scoreless with both teams knowing it was all to play for the in second half. It didn't take long for Lightning to break the deadlock with a Jason Sheahan goal in the 2nd minute of the half. A break down the right hand side saw David Njuki play a ball to Sheahan who slotted home from the edge of the box. Analog responded well producing some good play. They got their reward in the 42nd minute when Evan O'Neill leveled the scores. With the game in the balance, it was Team Lightning with the heroics late on. A pinpoint header from a corner gave Sheahan a brace and Lightning a 2-1 lead. Goalkeeper Mark Carey also produced two crucial saves - a penalty save and a good low save at the front post in the dying minutes. The win sees Lightning move joint top.


Wembeldines 1-2 Cutters

A quick start to the game saw Dines go close in the opening minutes as a cross from the right was headed just over. Cutters responded well with a break down the right mid way through the half. A shot forced a good low save from the Wembeldines keeper and the resulting rebound was blasted over. Cutters continued to look dangerous down the right and scored minutes later. Pauric OLoughlan put in a great ball across the 21 yard line to Cormac ODonovan who blasted it to the net. With their heads up, Cutters piled on the pressure and looked to double their lead 5 minutes later with a shot destined for the top corner. A spectacular save from the Wembeldines keeper kept the difference at one. David Fitzgerald, Pauric O'Loughlan & Nicky O'Connell were all looking dangerous and Cutters got their second goal after Padraig Hession won the ball on the edge of the Cutters box and passed it to Cathal "Tots" O'Connell. Tots cut through Dines defence and blasted it to the net. Dines upped the ante and had sustained pressure for the remainder of the half getting several corners and keeping Cutters pinned in. Feilim Begley was solid in the Cutters goal to keep Dines out. It was more of the same from Wembeldines in the second half and they finally got their goal in the 40th minute - a ball to the back post converted by the head of Brian Aherne. Both teams traded blows for the remainder of the game but Cutters managed to see the match out and record the 2-1 win. The result sees Cutters join Wembeldines and Team Lightning at the summit of the table with all three having 7 points a piece.


The Lakers 3-1 Kearneys Army 

Lakers got back to winning ways with a crucial 3-1 win over Kearneys Army. It was a night of excellent set pieces with both teams getting joy from free kicks and corners. Lakers opened the scoring with a well taken Tony Delaney goal in the 20th minute. Kearneys Army were back on terms two minutes later however. An excellent inswinging free kick from Paudie eluded everyone and found its way into the far post to make it 1-1 at the half time break. Lakers continued to deliver excellent balls from corners with several resulting in goal mouth scrambles, but no goals. It was minute 48 before Lakers managed to score a second. A pinpoint delivery from a free was met by the head of Gerry O'Brien to give Lakers something to hang on to. Dean Synnot all but wrapped up the game in the 55th minute when his header from a corner made it 3-1 to Lakers. The win puts Lakers in 3rd place at the half-way point, 3 points ahead of Kearneys Army in 4th.


Delta Rejects FC 1-1 Boca Seniors 

Delta Rejects started brightly and had a golden opportunity in the opening minutes. After going through 1 on 1 with the keeper, the Delta Rejects striker saw the ball go the wrong side of the post and allowed Boca to breathe a huge sigh of relief. Delta Rejects didn't let that missed chance bother them and went on to take the lead with an Alan Reddan goal. Boca came out in the second half and played some great football with their left inside forward causing Delta Rejects plenty of problems. Boca were creating but just couldn't seem to penetrate the Rejects goal. A ball that dropped inside the box after a corner saw a strike from a Boca player, but the Delta Rejects keeper was equal to it and kept his side in the lead. The Boca pressure eventually told and they got an equaliser 5 minutes before the end. A well worked free kick from deep found Ciaran on the left side who played a one-two and finished. A nervy 5 minutes saw Delta Rejects hang on and claim their first point of the post season. The result sees Boca remain unbeaten as they sit in 2nd place in the "B" league.
