Cutters 1-2 Delta

Freshly crowned champions Delta were in for a tough game against a Cutters side bang in form with this fixture already having the feel of a top of the table clash. Delta continued from their dominant performance in the previous league with some early pressure with corner upon corner being rained down upon the Cutters box. Delta were keeping Cutters at bay with some very well organised defence and some dogged tackles. Cutters nicked a goal against the run of play with some spectacular interplay between Ger Powell and Nicky O’Connell playing their own game carving the Delta back line open calmly converted by Nicky O’Connell on the 15th minute. Cutters were down to 10 as one of their men went down injured and was forced to come off, we all hope to see him back next week after what looked a tough injury. Delta made the man advantage tell as John Sullivan got one back to make it 1-1. Cutters were in for a tough end to the game being down to 10 and organised themselves well to keep Delta at bay. There were flashes of counter attacks for cutters but none of them were telling always just missing the final pass. Delta were composed on the ball and didn’t try to force anything for the rest of the game eventually creating a second to finish up the game 2-1 winners. Delta picked up where they left off with a classy victory and Cutters will be hoping to turn this around and put together a run.

Kearneys army 2-0 Delta Rejects FC

We had fresh blood on pitch 2 in UL on Friday as new team Kearneys army joined us in League B. Delta Rejects came into the new league with a sense of optimism as they seem to improve week in, week out. The opening of this game was all Delta Rejects with some good possession just missing out on the final ball. The only chance of the first half falling to Delta Rejects with a good run from Nathaniel being put just over the bar. Kearneys Armys half team talk must have been a good one as they came out in the second half like a completely different team. This showed with one of the goals of the season so far from Kearneys army midfielder as he smashed a bullet straight into the top corner from 30 yards out. Kearneys army were in the mood now and notched a second. Delta Rejects had some decent possession continuing to show their never say die attitude still just missing that cutting edge. The game ended 2-0 with Delta Rejects still waiting for that elusive first win, seems to be getting closer each week. Kearneys Army had the perfect start in their new league.

Boca Seniors 2-2 Bluestreak FC

Boca were looking to avenge last weeks defeat from Bluestreak and certainly showed that from the start as they were all over Bluestreak from the start. This was a tenacious game with the ref having a real job on his hands as either team traded fouls. One of these frees were the undoing of Bluestreak with a lovely inswinger from Andy Sheehan confounding the keeper going straight into the back of the Bluestreak net after a scramble in the box. Bluestreak were right back in it thanks to a lovely cross from the left wing headed gleefully in by Tomas Hayes as he was trying to keep up with his brothers James 2 from last week. It was a carbon copy of Bocas first goal with another free kick going straight into the back of the net this time delivered by Mike Moloney. This game continued to go back and fourth as Bluestreak notched another one back. A fiery affair eventually ended in a deserved share of the points.

Team lightning 1-1 Wembeldines

Team lightning came into this one unbeaten since matchday 4. The last team to beat them? Wembeldines. Team lightning had a bit of defensive crisis seeing Ian Sullivan dawn the goalkeeper gloves for the night. Sullivan was strong from the start, confidently punching several crosses from Wembeldines away. Lightnings Chimka was in form and made it show with a couple of surging runs from midfield putting Wembeldines defence under pressure. Wembeldines Brian Ahern made a good run down the right wing and put the ball in for a cross which ended up floating straight down into the Team lightnings net. An uncharacteristic mistake from an otherwise solid Ian Sullivan. Wembeldines were 1 up. Team lightnings had an excellent counter attack from a corner with a mesmerising run from team lightnings midfielder turning the Wembeldines defence inside and out putting his shot right down the throat of the Wembeldines ‘keeper. The minutes were ticking down with Team lightning not having very much to show for their possession. Ciaran Likely from the centre of defence took it upon himself from an otherwise lacklustre Team lightning in the last minute of the game to drive at the Wembeldines defence. He put one man, two, three eventually smashing the ball hard and true straight into the top corner from 30 yards out akin to Steven Gerrards strike against West Ham in the 2006 FA cup to save Team lightnings unbeaten run. In the end, a share of the spoils seemed correct as Likely saved Sullivans blushes.
