18/10/19 - Matchday 5 - Match Reports

Boca Seniors 1 – 2 Team Lightning
We had a real 6 pointer on our hands as 5th played 6th. It was a cagey start as both teams took time to settle into the game. It wasn’t until the 22nd minute that there was a site of goal when Team lightning made the keeper save a good shot from outside the box. This began a spell of dominance for Team lightning which they capitalised on in the 32nd minute thanks to a ball over the top which Dave Njuki calmly finished over the keeper under pressure from the defender and rushing goalie. Team lightning were officially on the front foot as Boca Seniors had their box overrun with crosses. Eventually the pressure became too much for Boca as they conceded thanks to one of their own players attempting to head the ball out for a corner stuck it into the top corner. The team talk at half time must have been a good one for Boca as they came out all guns blazing in the second half with a great chance just 3 minutes into the half as a Boca attacker was left free from 6 yards out sending his header agonizingly wide. Boca eventually struck in the 55th minute thanks to a screamer from Sheehan to set up a nail-biting finale. Team lighting kept their head to see out a hard fought 2-1 victory which puts their season back on track

Delta Rejects FC 0-7 Cutters
Cutters were quick out of the trap here with 3 goals in the first 20 minutes. Their quick ball movement and composure on the ball were too much for the opposition as Delta Rejects really struggled to get a foot hold in the game. Just as Delta Rejects looked like they were settling in Cutters were at it again delivering a devastating blow with a goal on the 32nd minute right after half time courtesy of Cormac O’Donovan. Just as Delta Rejects began knocking the ball around a bit more comfortably Cutters hit them with a knock out blow in the form of a stunning shot from outside the box on the 45th minute. Cutters smelt blood and went for it as they knocked in another two with Delta Rejects struggling to put up much of a fight.

Wembeldines 3-3 The Lakers
A team still searching for their first win vs a team with a perfect record so far seemed like a David Vs Goliath story. There was an added layer of excitement with this came as Wembeldines welcomed back one of their regulars Pa O’Donovan from a brief bit of warm weather training in Spain. Surely this game had Wembeldines keeping their perfect start written all over it. The Lakers were well up for the challenge as they made the dream start thanks to experienced striker Jerry O’Brien bullying the Wembeldines defence and scoring with just 2 minutes played. Wembeldines looked shell shocked as they struggled to gain a foothold in the game. It was all Lakers for most of the half with Wembeldines defending well. The lakers went 2-0 up with the dreams of a first win getting closer to a reality. Wembeldines wouldn’t go down without a fight though getting one back courtesy of Danny Galvin. The Lakers got another one with 10 minutes to go to make it 3-1. Wembeldines showed their experience and class as they got 2 back in the final throws of the game. O’Donovan credited the ‘bit of R&R’ as the reason behind the hard-fought goal. A real thriller with the lakers very unlucky to walk away with only a draw.

Analog 3-2 Bluestreak FC
3rd vs 8th played out an excellent game with Analog having the better of the start with a goal early on from Brian O’Donnell. It was all Analog for the first half as they struggled to convert their chances from immense pressure on Bluestreak. The second half began with a goal from Analog which looked like at the time to be the game wrapped up as Bluestreak offered up very little in response. Dara Shanahan took the game by the scruff of the neck as he drove in from left wing to hit a rasper that Analogs keeper got down well for. This sprung Bluestreak into life as they piled the pressure onto the joint best defence in the league. Eventually this pressure told as they got a penalty which was duly converted as the keeper was sent the wrong way. Analog became nervy with some poorly placed passes and some poor decisions. Dara Shanahan continued his scoring streak with a great goal from outside the box to level things up. This truly absorbing game had been set up for the finale it deserved. Each time traded jabs until Analogs Shane O’Brien came up with the goods to break Bluestreaks heart. Bluestreaks hunt for their first points still go on but if they retain their level of commitment and desire they can be confident there’ll be better times ahead.
