Narrow wins for Lightning, Viking and Brazuca

Brazuca Legends v The Black Swans

In a pattern that followed all the games tonight, this one was no different as both newcomers played out a very competitive game. After a slow start from both teams which is to be expected as they felt each other out, Brazuca took the lead through Robbie Carey, which wouldn’t be his final act in the game. Robbie found himself behind the Black Swans defence and slid it past the on-rushing Jack Tiernan in the Swans goal. The Black Swans didn’t wait long to reply tho, a thunderbolt from long range from the sweet left boot of Barry Neville. The teams went into the break level. The game stayed the same for much of the second half, until again the thorn in the side of the Black Swans Robbie Carey struck the winner to break the likely draw. The black swans pushed for a winner but to no joy and then Brazuca legends took home all 3 points. 2-1 the final score.

Wembledines v Cappaquigley Athletic

The first of many goal fests tonight was between these two very evenly matched sides. Wembledines brought plenty of experience and it was them who took a first half lead through the head of Brian Aherne. Cappaquigley did not let this affect them however and fired in two quick goals to take the lead. Goals scored from Ricky and Oj, just before the break, Wembledines would consider themselves unlucky as they rattled the crossbar. Cappa, buoyed by their half time lead increased their advantage through a great goal from Tyler. The enthusiasm and excitement of the whole cappa players and sideline was in full voice as they closed in on a huge result. However, Wembledines had other plans. The ever-reliable Croucher grabbed a well-deserved goal for the Friday night regulars. With just seconds remaining, the drama was still yet to come as a Cappa could not clear their box on several occasions. With the literal last kick of the game, Phil Blackwell grabbed an equaliser as he stabbed home to the heartbreak of the newcomers. A great contest. 3-3 the final score

Sporting Viking v Barely Athletic

Another game that gave all those watching plenty of goals to see. It was Noel Healy that gave Barely Athletic the lead with a great finish. The lead didn’t last long however as the very impressive Aaron Grant scored a deserved equaliser for Sporting Viking. The tie stayed like this until half time. Viking really grew into the game after the break and started to take control. The ever-lively Devlin Price then put them ahead with a clever finish. Things almost got worse for Barely when again Viking finished a chance well, but it was ruled out for offside. This was to be just a momentary respite for Barely, as the third goal did eventually come through Richie Ryan after a scramble in the box. Barely did try and make a late comeback, with a neat finish from Peter Thompson, but it was Sporting Viking who picked up all three points with a 3-2 win.

Team Lightning v Alfies Heroes

Two teams who know all about each other at this stage, and that was to be the theme of the game as both sides traded goals back and forth for an hour. It was Alfies who took the lead through the boot of Eoin Hanrahan. The game was level again as Damien “Wobbler” Collins was quick to react to a parried save and drew the sides level. Lightning pressed to go ahead, but yet again fell behind as the Owner, Captain and now goalscorer of Alfies Heroes Ger Fitz scored a self-confessed “screamer” to put his side 2-1 up at the break. Shortly after half time, it was Team Lightning who began strongly with only the crossbar keeping them from drawing level. They did not have to wait long however; Mads Reddan cracked a great strike into the Alfies net to level the tie yet again. It was to stay like this until not long before the game finished, and the hero was to be Reddan yet again as he fired home a big winner for Team Lightning. Final score 2-3
