Bluestreak and Wembledins maintain 100% records - 07/10/22

    Barely Athletic 0-2 Deportivo Dooradoyle

Deportivo got off to a fast start in their game versus Barely Athletic taking the lead in the 5th minute.

The Dooradoyle boys nearly added a second just a minute late but the Barely keeper saved the shot.

In the 9th minute, Deportivo looked sure to add a second when a ball was taken down well inside the

box. With the ball at his feet 10 yards from goal, a second looked inevitable but the Barely keeper

managed to get down and recover well. Deportivo added a second but Barely weren't giving up. In the

55th minute, Barely's winger chased what looked like a lost cause and managed to save the ball from

going out over the byline. A cross was swung in and despite there being 4 Deportivo defenders in the

box vs the one Barely attacker, the Barely forward managed to get in front of his man and make contact

with the ball. Unfortunately, he couldn't steer the ball on target and Deportivo's two goal lead remained

in tact. Some good center forward play again in the 58th minute almost saw Barely snatch one back.

The ball was well trapped by the center forward and laid off to his team mate. The resulting shot forced

a good save from the Deportivo keeper. 2-0 the final result as Deportivo notch their first win of the

season.

    Wembledines 3-1 Alfies Heroes

After a Wembledines corner in the 4th minute, Alfies broke through the center and forced a goal scoring opportunity. Frank McEvoy in the Dines goal managed to smother the shot and keep the game scoreless. Both sides generally liked to play a patient style of football but it was a quick release from Dines that got them their goal in the 25th minute. Capitalising on an overload, they worked the ball from right to left to find the free man who coolly slotted home. Wembledines came in 2-0 up at half time. A contentious penalty gave Alfies a way back into it in the second half, but Wembledines managed to shut up shop and play out a 1-1 draw in the second half to give a final score of 3-1 Dines. A huge win for Wembledines as they maintain their 100% record with 4 wins from 4.

    Team Lightning 3-0 BD Ballers

A scoreline that may flatter Lightning. A game that was scoreless up until the 55th minute before

Lightning notched three goals in quick succession. A good first half from BD Ballers saw them go close

in the 20th minute when a header from a cross was heading for the bottom corner, but just lacked that

bit of power to truly test the Lightning keeper. In the 23rd minute, a mazing run from the BD wide man

saw his shot hit into the side netting. The second half was relatively quiet until it all happened in the

closing minutes. A Lightning corner was unluckily knocked in by a BD man to give Lightning the lead

courtesy of an OG (video below). Two minutes later, a deflected John Ryan shot gave Lightning a

2 goal lead and another two minutes later saw a Wobbler goal give Lightning a 3-0 lead. A 3-0 scoreline

but not a 3-0 game for the unlucky BD Ballers.

      Bluestreak 4-2 Cutters

Knowing Wembledines had made it 4 from 4, Bluestreak were under pressure to keep their perfect streak alive. The confident Bluestreak went two ahead in the first half and added a third to all but kill off the game in the 28th minute. Some good footwork by Bluestreak's nippy forward allowed him to square a ball to his team mate at the back post who knocked home to give Bluestreak an insurmountable 3-0 half time lead. Insurmountable you say? That's what one would have thought. In a game of two halves, Cutters came out and dominated the second half. In the 41st minute, Cutters cleared the ball. Instead of taking the ball forward into Bluestreak territory, the Michael O'Loughlan decided to hit a swerving shot from 35 yards. The hapless keeper could do nothing as Cutters got one back by way of an absolute screamer. Two minutes later, Cutters nearly had a second back as a ball trickled just wide (video below). Cutters kept the pedal to the metal and did get a second back in the 45th minute (video below). A pass from David Fitzgerald on the wing found Cormac O'Donovan who smashed the ball into the bottom corner. The pressure kept piling on and Bluestreak keeper had to be on top form to keep out a Cutters corner (video below). Despite looking like the tide was turning, Bluestreak got a crucial 4th goal to steady the ship. Former Cutters man Nicky O'Connell had a free header in the box to score vs his former team. This was enough to run out 4-2 winners in a very entertaining game and keep it neck and neck between Bluestreak and Dines at the top of the table.
