The Friday Night League Cup Competitions saw 7 fixtures (4 semi-finals, and 3 finals) over the last two weeks and every single game was decided by a single goal - a testament to the competitiveness we've seen from all teams this season.
Many great goals have been scored throughout the season, but the greatest was witnessed in the Intertoto Cup final. About 10 yards from the half way line, the ball rolled out for an innocuous throw-in. About 4 seconds later, Delta Rejects were celebrating the opening goal of the final. A short throw was met by the chest of Lee Costelloe. With his back to goal and a defender pressuring him, he let the ball drop towards his foot and flicked the ball over the full-back's head. Just a couple of yards inside the touchline - the ball still not having touched the ground since the throw-in - Costelloe unleashed a Pappis Cisse like strike that traveled all the way from the touchline over the keeper's head and nestled inside the side netting at the far post. Goal of the season hands down. At 1-0, Kearneys Army responded well and didn't allow Delta Rejects enjoy their lead for too long. A couple of minutes later they were back on terms with a well taken finish. Both teams had spells in possession for the remainder of the half with Kearneys forcing a save from the Delta Rejects keeper in the 25th minute. A strike from just outside the box saw the Delta Rejects keeper get down well and make a clean save. Both teams came out foaming at the mouth for the second half with Kearneys Army probably dictating play a tad more, but Delta Rejects having their spells also. In the 41st minute, a through ball found Kearney's center-forward Darren cutting in from the left wing. A finesse finish across the keeper produced another good save from the Delta Rejects #1. In the 45th minute, Delta Rejects won a free-kick about 30 yards out from goal. Something special would've been needed to beat the keeper from this distance, but Delta Rejects very nearly produced just that. A wicked strike saw the Kearneys keeper dive low to his right and just about keep the ball out. With ten minutes to go, Kearneys Army were rueing their luck. Through on goal, the Delta Rejects keeper made another good save. The ball found it's way to a Kearneys man and the shot hit off the inside of the post and went everywhere but over the line. From the resulting corner, Kearney's center-back and captain connected well but the ball was straight at the Delta Rejects keeper. Kearney's Army got the crucial second half goal to take the lead and never relinquished it. Delta Rejects battled on but Kearney's Army saw the game out and captured the Intertoto Cup.
In the UEFA Cup final, Analog came from behind to beat Bluestreak 2-1. A ball turned over in midfield allowed Bluestreak to hit Analog on the counter to go 1 up in the 7th minute. Analog were on terms in the 18th minute after a square ball from the right allowed a one yard tap in. In the second half, Bluestreak didn't quite manage to clear a corner and Analog sent the ball back into the danger area. With plenty of Analog bodies still in the box, the pressure told and Analog managed to turn the ball in to make it 2-1. Bluestreak couldn't find another goal so Analog were crowned UEFA Cup Champions.

Lightning did indeed strike twice (in more ways than one) as two set piece goals were enough for Team Lightning to clinch a League & Cup double. A goal resulting from a corner gave Lightning an early lead. With something to hang onto, the team in blue sat deep and defended well for the majority of the game. Cutters found the equaliser in the 45th after a good left footed finish across the keeper from Cormac O'Donovan. With nothing left to hang onto and a resolute Cutters defence, Lightning weren't sure where a goal was going to come from. But a wise man once said, when you've a 6ft6 center forward, you always have a chance. A deep free kick was launched into the Cutters box and the 6ft6 Wobbler rose highest and got just enough on the ball to direct it into the Cutters net and give Team Lightning the W.
