Team Lightning 4-0 Delta
Team Lightning were looking to extend their
unbeaten run to 6 as their confidence was brimming, boosted even further with
the return of star striker Dave Njuki. The star man made his presence known
early on with pressing from the front. This pressing put the Delta defence
under intense pressure eventually leading to a Dave Njuki goal. Delta seemed
all out of ideas as Team lightning pushed on with another goal from Jason
Sheehan before the half. Team lightnings keeper didn’t have a save to make
until the 32nd minute such was their dominance. The pressure
continued with Jason Sheehan at it again notching a second. Ciaran Likely and
Wobbler at the heart of the Team Lightnings defence were bang at it keeping
Deltas attack at bay with some excellent organisation and composed footwork.
Jason Sheehan took home the game ball as he got his third for a very well-deserved
Team lightning victory. Team lightning are now top of the A league. Delta had
an off-colour night which they’ll be hoping to turn around before the winter
break against Wembeldines.
Bluestreak FC 3-2 Kearney’s Army
Bluestreak started this one with some good
football leading to a decent chance for James Hayes putting it just wide after
some hard work from Callum Suart on the flank. Bluestreak must have had some mid-week
coaching with the tiki taka football they were playing. This velvety football
led to an excellent chance from Dara Shanahan as he opened his body expertly
but uncharacteristically put it wide. Eventually this good football led to a
goal from Dara Shanahan after an excellent cross from Callum Suart laid on a
plate for Dara to bullet home off his head from 5 yards. Bluestreak went in 1-0
leaders at the half. Kearney’s army didn’t manage much in the start of the
second half as Bluestreak got another again thanks to Dara Shanahan. Completely
against the run of play Kearney’s Army got a deserved penalty. The Bluestreak
keeper looked like a man possessed as he shot to his left to save the penalty
much to the dismay of the Kearney’s Army sideline. It seemed like that was the
game all sewn up until Kearney’s Army notched one back thanks to Kevin Walsh. Suddenly
Kearney’s Army were level with a second from Paudie Sheehan. The game was set
up for an excellent finale as there was 2 minutes left with both teams throwing
players forward, neither were happy with the draw. Callum Suart got the winner
much to the delight of the Bluestreak team as they continue their unbeaten run
to go top. These two seem to be the teams to beat.
The Lakers 7-1 Delta Rejects FC
Delta Rejects came into this one missing 6
of their usual starters as Christmas party season has begun. Within the first
minute they were in dreamland as Alan Reddan expertly converted a penalty. Park
the bus and perhaps they could get a surprising result. Unfortunately, this was
the end of the high for Delta Rejects as Wayne Cahillane got Lakers first and
second within 5 minutes of the first. The Lakers were 5-1 up on the half with 2
goals from Jerry O’Brien and one from Donal Hammond. The destruction of Delta
continued after the half with another 2 from the Lakers eventually running out
7-1 winners. A lot of credit must be given to Delta Rejects for putting out a
full 11 and continuing to attack gallantly from start to finish.
Analog 0-3 Wembeldines
The first half was akin to the adage of an
immovable object meeting an unstoppable force as both teams cancelled each
other out. Wembeldines notched the first goal thanks to a free kick from Alan
Finucane. This seemed to be the opening of the floodgates as Analog got more
stretched as they started throwing men forward. Wembeldines played very similar
to Claudio Ranieri’s title winning Leicester letting Analog have all the ball
with some precise and devastating counter attacks. Brian Ahern finished off an
excellent counter attack beautifully as he dinked the ball over the keeper.
Analog began throwing everything at Wembeldines culminating in a decent chance
from a spectacular ball in from centre back Anthony Lee just skewed wide from
the Analog strike force. Wembeldines were a well organised outfit to see out
the victory notching a third to win the game 3-0. All in all, a tight game that
the score line perhaps didn’t really represent, Wembeldines were just more
clinical.
